lent.
valentine's day.
two things everyone's been posting on lately, and i didn't and don't have it in me to write much if anything on either one.
i gave up pop for lent. this was a spontaneously made decision and one i'm sure i'll regret, oh, maybe right now since i'm craving a mountain dew. but i made up my mind to do it and that's the end of that.
and then valentine's day. i felt like because so many of my posts on singleness have resonated with y'all before, i ought to have something equally if not more profound on valentine's day. and then i realized i didn't feel like writing anything, mostly because i didn't care about it. yesterday to me was thursday. i slept in and then went to work and then came home. same old, same old.
liz said once she envisioned my future husband being really sentimental and going all out for holidays like these and me just being like, "but why?" i am just not a mushy person. my dad got me two boxes of candy hearts for valentine's this year and that was more than enough.
in other news, work has been crazy lately. i feel like i'm always saying that but this time it's actually true.
also it's been over thirty-five degrees every day since monday, which feels like the universe is making the mitten a promise that spring is coming, which ultimately there's hope for my chapped hands yet.
what's going on in your part of the world?

Yesterday was Thursday for me too -- and I am married! Lol my husband and I are pretty mushy but yesterday we both worked and we just didn't put much effort into it. He got home from work and we ordered pizza and I went to bed early! Lol I got him a funny card and a small bag of flamin hot Cheetos! Whoop whoop! Lol.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for sticking to your commitment of no soda for lent! (:
ohhhh my goodness! i just read 35 degrees and it gave me the shivers! haha! You are so cute!
ReplyDeleteyou mean to tell me that yesterday was V-Day!? just kidding. yesterday was a regular old thursday for me too, girl. it was absolutely nothing special for me either. and i also thought about writing a post, but then i thought "i don't really care, so . . . why should i bother!?" so i didn't write a post. i slept in yesterday and then went into work where my work-stress from this past week was amplified yet again, and i so wanted to just scream.
ReplyDeletehope work settles down for us both. sigh. good luck without pop! i've been doing it for a couple of weeks and had a dr. pepper yesterday (which did help with the stress, sad to say. oi!
What's pop? ;P
ReplyDeleteYeah, we dont recognize Valentine's Day as a holiday in our house. I worked in the floral industry for years and it burnt me out. It's so commercial and forced. I think if you love someone, you should be telling them all year long. We saw a report last night that the average amount spent for Vday is $130. That's ridiculous! I just made dinner (like usual) and we spent the evening chatting and watching tv (like usual) and ate some popcorn on the couch after the babies went to bed.
This was my first Valentine's Day as a married woman, and my husband and I didn't celebrate, either. I've always felt that loving someone and expressing love shouldn't be limited to one day, especially when it's overdone and mass-produced.
ReplyDeleteStay warm, Annie! I also shivered at 35 degrees...but it's a good thing spring is coming!
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day was the same old for me as well. It was just a day. A day with a few cards and a few desserts. But that can be any day too :)
Hope your weekend is fun and relaxing!
It's in the mid-thirties around here too. Which feels warm to me. Even though it's not actually warm at all. I think it's just wishful thinking that spring is on the way! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha when I first read "pop" I thought you were talking about pop music, not soda :) Good luck with that!
ReplyDelete-mal :)
